OpenAI’s ChatGPT chatbot can now read its responses out loud on all platforms. This Read Aloud feature comes after ChatGPT gained the ability to engage in back-and-forth voice conversations with users last fall.
On mobile, ChatGPT users just need to tap and hold a response and then tap “Read Aloud” to hear it. On the web, this Read Aloud feature will roll out to ChatGPT users gradually.

These new voice capabilities in ChatGPT are powered by OpenAI’s new text-to-speech model. As of today, ChatGPT can read written responses in 37 languages, and the chatbot also offers five different voice options.
In the race to create the best generative AI assistant, Microsoft Copilot and Google Gemini are also both capable of reading their responses out loud. However, ChatGPT continues to enjoy more mindshare as it came first to market. Gemini, which was previously named Google Bard, has also yet to become broadly available on mobile. While Google launched a standalone Gemini app on Android, iOS users will need to access the chatbot within the main Google app.
