Spotify is launching a Spanish version of its new AI DJ, which first launched in beta in English last year. The personalized AI guide can now deliver music recommendations with some light commentary to Spotify Premium users in Spain and select countries in Latin America.

The English version of Spotify’s AI DJ, which remains in beta, is currently available in 50 markets in Europe, Asia, and Africa, as well as Australia and New Zealand. “Premium users love DJ,” Spotify said today. The median DJ listener spends more time listening to DJ than listeners of any other recommended set.”

Spotify used Xavier “X” Jernigan, the company’s Head of Cultural Partnerships as its first AI voice model. For the Spanish version of its AI DJ, Spotify used the voice of Olivia “Livi” Quiroz Roa, its Senior Music Editor based in Mexico City. “After an extensive international casting call, Livi’s voice resonated the most with users. Testers really felt it was relatable and like they were hearing music recommendations from a friend,” the company explained.

To access the new AI DJ, Spotify Premium users just need to search for “DJ” in the app’s Search tab and press ‘Play’. The AI DJ will then automatically do its magic and choose what to play based on users’ musical tastes. Now that Spotify’s AI DJ has two different voices, Premium users can tap the three-dot menu within the DJ card to switch between English and Spanish.

According to Spotify, making its AI DJ available in Spanish has been a popular request among its “millions” of Spanish-speaking users. “over the last few months, we’ve seen an over 215% increase in social conversation around DJ in Spanish,” the company said today. While all music streaming services use algorithms to provide personalized music recommendations, Spotify was the first to create an AI DJ that can comment on the songs it recommends.
