Proton Brings Scribe AI to Consumers, More Languages

Proton Scribe

Proton announced that its Scribe AI writing assistant is now available to consumers and in 8 additional languages.

“Following overwhelming interest from the wider Proton community, users on Proton Duo and Proton Family plans will now receive access to the AI writing assistant at no extra cost,” the Proton announcement explains. “This expanded availability gives more people access to privacy-preserving AI than ever before.”

Proton Scribe integrates with Proton Mail, where it helps users compose email messages based on simple prompts, proofreads content, corrects spelling and grammar issues, shortens draft email messages, and performs other tasks using natural language processing. It works with on-device AI models by default, but users can also use Proton Scribe’s secure, no-logs servers if preferred. No data is shared with third parties either way, Proto notes.

Proton Scribe is now available in 9 languages–French, German, Spanish, Italian, Portuguese, Russian, Chinese, and Japanese, in addition to English–helping non-English speakers benefit from its privacy-first AI functionality. Non-English languages require using the server-side version of Scribe.

Proton Scribe was previously available only to subscribers with Proton Business and Visionary plans. But Individuals on Proton Family or Duo can also access Scribe now, further expanding access to the service.
