Google is bringing its Gemini assistant to its Gmail app on Android. With Gmail Q&A, Gemini paid customers can access the AI chatbot right from their inbox, ask it to find information from their emails, and more.
On the Google Workspace blog yesterday, Google explained that this new Gmail Q&A feature serves the same purpose as the Gemini side panel that’s available on the desktop for paid Gemini customers. “You can ask Gemini questions about your inbox or to do things like find specific details in your emails, show you unread messages, view messages from a specific sender, or summarize emails about a topic in your inbox.
As of today, Gmail Q&A on Android can only surface information from users’ inboxes, but it will eventually be able to access information from Google Drive as well. The AI assistant can be accessed from the black Gemini star at the top right corner of the Gmail Android app, or from the “summarize this email” button in an email.

Gmail Q&A on Android is currently available for Google Workspace customers with a Gemini Business, Enterprise, Education, or Education Premium plan. It’s also available for consumers who pay for the $19.99/month Google One AI Premium plan. Google said that its AI chabot is also coming soon to the Gmail app for iOS.
Google also announced other updates for its Gemini AI earlier this week, with the ability for paid customers to create custom versions of the chatbot called “Gems.” Gemini is also getting an improved image generation model called Imagen 3, and after disabling it earlier this year, Google is also bringing back the ability to generate images of humans with Gemini.
