Adobe Announces Major Updates to Premiere, After Effects, and More

Adobe Premiere 25

On the eve of IBC, Adobe announced major updates to Premiere Pro and After Effects, its key solutions for video creators, alongside a few other related advances.

“Adobe Premiere Pro 25 and After Effects 25, available in October, make the industry’s leading video editor and the industry’s leading motion graphics tool even more powerful and versatile,” the company announced this morning. “New Premiere Pro features include an innovative new color management system and a new context-aware Properties Panel, while After Effects now comes with enhanced 3D workflows and a whole bunch of new animation presets. Both apps will also feature even faster performance and modern, refreshed user interfaces.”

The updates in Premiere Pro 25 focus on performance, reliability, and more seamless workflows for those creating short and long form content. It features major advances in color management that natively support raw and log formats from nearly every camera, massive performance improvements, and more efficient interfaces for commonly needed tools and context-sensitive property panels. ProRes exports are up to 3X faster than before, and the app itself has been overhauled with a fresh new design that’s more easily customized. Premiere Pro 25 is currently available in beta and will be generally available soon.

Meanwhile, After Effects 25 offers a more streamlined interface for 3D workspaces that blend 2D and 3D assets right in the app without the need for third-party apps. It offers an expanded range of tools for embedding 3D animations more realistically in 2D video, supports GLB and GLTF 3D models with key-frame animations and bone-based deformations, more realistic shadows and color shadows, and 3D model depth mapping. There are over 30 new animation presets, easier camera and light controls, hardware accelerated performance improvements, and a fresh new design, as with Premiere. The updated UI is currently in beta and will ship in stable soon.

Adobe has also updated the related Substance 3D, which lets designers map 2D textures onto 3D models and integrates with After Effects. Substance 3D now supports a Send to After Effects function, a 3D sampler, and access to over 20,000 fully licensed, ready-to-use parametric materials, 3D models, and environment lights.

And the firm announced a new commitment to protecting creators in the AI era by issuing a second Firefly bonus payment to contributors to Adobe Stock who allow their content to be used to train AI. This comes ahead of new features to Adobe Stock that will help contributors earn more and customers adjust existing content in real-time. You can learn more on the Adobe Stock website.
