Apple has teamed up with Amazon to make its Apple TV+ streaming service available on Prime Video in the US. Later this month, Apple TV+ will join Paramount+, HBO Max, Discovery+, and other streaming services that are available as paid add-on channels on Prime Video.
“We want to make Apple TV+ and its award-winning library of series and films from the world’s greatest storytellers available to as many viewers as possible,” said Eddy Cue, Apple’s SVP of Services. “We’re thrilled that Prime Video will now offer Apple TV+, giving viewers an incredible breadth of viewing options.”
Apple has a similar paid channels system on its Apple TV+ app, but Amazon Prime Video app is available on more platforms than Apple TV+. As an example, there’s still no Apple TV app for Android. The Prime Video app, however, often comes preinstalled on smart TVs, and users can access the service for free with an Amazon Prime subscription or subscribe to Prime Video separately.
Apple TV+ offers a growing library of critically-acclaimed films and TV shows such as Ted Lasso, Severance, and Silo. And unlike with Prime Video content, you don’t need to pay extra for an ad-free experience. However, because Apple TV+ still has far less content than competing streaming services, it probably makes sense for Apple to make it available on a bigger platform like Prime Video.
Subscribing to Apple TV+ via Amazon Prime Video will still cost the same $9.99 per month as if users were subscribing directly through the Apple TV+ app. Amazon didn’t say when Apple TV+ will be available via Prime Video outside of the US, but the company already confirmed that additional territories would follow.
