Docs in Proton Drive Gets a New Suggesting Mode

Proton announced a new Suggesting mode for Docs in Proton Drive that lets you track changes made by others. There are several other updates to Docs in Proton Drive as well.

“Docs in Proton Drive is an end-to-end encrypted document editor that lets you collaborate with others in real-time without compromising your data,” Proton’s Anant Vijay writes. “Today, we’re excited to unveil the most recent additions to the Docs experience, including suggesting — a new mode that lets you track changes made to the document by colleagues, partners, and clients without altering the original content.”

As Vijay notes, Docs in Proton Drive is now the only online document editor that offers a track changes feature that’s fully end-to-end encrypted. Otherwise, it works like similar track changes features in apps like Word or Google Docs: Edits made by others are highlighted so you can accept or reject them, you can see who made each edit, and when, and those in a work environment can use this feature with others outside their organization.

To access the new Suggesting feature, open Proton Drive and then open or create a document you wish to collaborate on with others. Then, click the “Mode” toolbar button–it is in Editing mode by default, so it will look like a pencil–and select “Suggesting” from the menu that appears. Then, you can select text you wish to edit and choose “Add suggestion.” As suggestions are made to a document, you (the document owner) can accept or reject them, and accepted suggestions become part of the final document.

In addition to Suggesting, Docs in Proton Drive also now offers iPhone, iPad, and Android apps for mobile editing, track changes, and comment responses; keyboard shortcuts; the ability to delete a document without leaving Editing mode; and new formatting options like dividers and bullet point styles.
