Amazon is now offering a new audiobook perk to Amazon Music Unlimited subscribers in the US, UK, and Canada. Starting today, subscribers in these markets can listen to one audiobook a month from Audible’s vast library that includes over a million titles in the US.
“Starting today, Amazon Music Unlimited individual plan subscribers, and primary account holders to the family plan, can listen to one audiobook at a time—of any length—per month with their subscription,” the company explained today. “Customers can stream at their convenience and can continue listening to their monthly title after the next billing cycle begins, or select a new one.”
Audible is an Amazon subsidiary, and this kind of synergy makes sense. It also gives customers who want listen to more audiobooks the incentive to subscribe to an Audible membership or purchase audiobooks a la carte from the Audible app. As you may know, Amazon is also giving Prime members free access to a selection of books with Audible Narration on iOS and Android phones and tablets, as well as a free Audible Premium Plus trial plus two credits that can be applied to any books in the Audible library.
Spotify has preceded Amazon in giving its Premium subscribers access to an audiobook library, though there are some important differences: Spotify Premium members are free to listen to any audiobook in a library of over 200,000 titles, but audiobook listening is limited to just 15 hours per month. Users who want more time to listen can still purchase additional audiobook listening hours, however.
