Fortnite Goes Ballistic Next Week

Next week, Fortnite will launch a 5v5 first-person competitive game mode called Ballistic that combines action, strategy, and teamwork. It looks more than a little like a cartoonish version of Call of Duty or Counter-Strike.

“Ballistic is a new first-person Fortnite experience,” the Fortnite team explains. “Launching in early access on December 11 with Ranked + Unranked, Ballistic is an adrenaline-filled, round-based 5v5 competitive game mode where strategy, tactical teamwork, and individual prowess are essential for victory.”

In Ballistic, two 5-member teams alternate rolls between attackers and defenders, with the former trying to plant what is essentially a bomb at one of two places in-map and the latter trying to prevent them from doing so. There are no respawns, and the game ends when one team 7 rounds total. Matchmaking is ranked and based on the average rank of each team.

Ballistic launches in early access with a single map, Skyline 10, plus a starting set of weapons and a limited number of items so the team can get feedback and make adjustments as needed. Then, it will add more maps, new weapons, and other features.

And as part of Fortnite, all your Fortnite outfits, blings, kicks, sprays, emotes and most other Locker items carry over, though “pickaxes, contrails, instruments, vehicles, and jam tracks are not supported.” Apparently, this game developed its own language while I wasn’t looking.

Ballistic will be made available in Fortnite on all platforms and regions in which Fortnite is supported, except for South Korea and Russia.
