YouTube Music Now Supports Timestamp Sharing

YouTube Music

YouTube Music now supports sharing timestamps for songs and podcasts. The main YouTube app has had this feature for a while, and 9to5Google reports that it’s now available on YouTube Music on all platforms, though it appears to be rolling out gradually on mobile.

On the web, the option to share timestamps appears at the bottom of the Share pop-up, similar to how timestamp sharing works for YouTube videos. On mobile, the “Start at x:xx” toggle will appear at the top-right corner of the YouTube Music Share sheet.

YouTube Music is a solid alternative to Spotify and other music streaming services as it lets users create playlists that mix licensed music, YouTube videos, and uploaded music. However, the app is really lackluster when it comes to podcasts.

Following the closure of Google Podcasts in June, YouTube Music became Google’s new home for podcast listeners. However, the app doesn’t do a great job at surfacing podcasts, and it currently has less content than Spotify and dedicated podcast apps. While YouTube Music users can add podcasts to their library using RSS feeds, this option is quite easy to miss.

Overall, YouTube Music adding support for timestamp sharing is great for improving consistency with the main YouTube app. During the holiday season, both apps also let users explore their 2024 Music Recap page with personalized stats about their music and listening habits.
