Accessory Makers Are Showing Nintendo Switch 2 Mockups at CES

While Nintendo has yet to officially reveal the successor to the Nintendo Switch, several accessory makers are currently at CES to show accessories for the new console, according to a report from the French website Numerama. One of these companies named Genki came to the annual trade show with a Nintendo Switch 2 mockup and a video showing the console’s new detachable controllers.

The accessory maker told the French publication that it created a collection of eight accessories to be released alongside the new Nintendo console in April. The company, which isn’t in partnership with Nintendo, also claimed that it managed to obtain a Switch 2 unit on the black market. This is something Numerama heard from a couple of other accessory makers at CES this week.

The Nintendo Switch 2 mockup seen by Numerama shows a console that is slightly bigger than the original model, with an additional USB-C port at the top and a new C button on the right Joy-Con. The new Joy-Cons are also said to be magnetic, and they may come with a new optical sensor that could serve as a mouse input in some games.

As reported by Eurogamer today, another accessory maker named Laziro has also started selling a smart cover for the Nintendo Switch 2 on Amazon Japan, with different marketing images showing how the new console will look like. While this isn’t the first accessory for the new console to appear online, it does look like an official announcement could be imminent.

Nintendo said back in November that it would introduce the successor to the Nintendo Switch before the end of its fiscal year in March 2025. The company also confirmed that Nintendo Switch games will be backwards-compatible on the new consoles. The Nintendo Switch is currently the #2 best-selling console of all time with 146.04 million lifetime sales, and the company expects that number to hit over 158 million units by the end of March.
