Age of Mythology: Retold and Age of Empires II: DE Are Coming to PlayStation 5

Age of Mythology Retold PlayStation 5

Age of Empires is the next Microsoft-owned game franchise that’s coming to PlayStation consoles this year. Age of Mythology: Retold and Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition are both being ported on PlayStation 5 in 2025, with the first one launching on Sony’s console on March 4.

The PS5 version of Age of Mythology: Retold will launch alongside the game’s new Immortal Pillars expansion, which will add a brand new Chinese civilization to the game. “All game updates from March 4th onwards will go to all platforms simultaneously – Steam, Windows Store, Xbox and PlayStation 5 – and players will be able to play together,” the Age of Empires team said today.

Age of Empires II: Definitive Edition will also be released on PlayStation 5 later this spring alongside a new DLC for all platforms. The team plans to share more details about it closer to the DLC’s release.

Last week, the Age of Empires team also announced that it had canceled an upcoming DLC for Age of Empires III: Definitive Edition on PC. While the 2020 game will no longer get new content, its successor Age of Empires IV will get two new DLCs this year. The first one, Knights of Cross and Rose, will launch this spring and add a more challenging solo mode.

Age of Empires IV is currently available on PC, Xbox One, and Xbox Series X|S, but it hasn’t been announced for PlayStation 5 consoles yet. However, it wouldn’t be surprising to see it eventually come to PS5 if Age of Mythology: Retold and Age of Empires II: DE sell well on Sony’s console.
