Microsoft is Bringing Copilot to Xbox

Copilot for Gaming is an AI-powered assistant that will help players strengthen their skills, manage time, and connect with others. Microsoft announced this advance alongside a major milestone for Xbox Play Anywhere. And it will soon begin public testing of Copilot for Gaming through an early preview of on mobile.

“Copilot in the context of Xbox has to be about gameplay,” Xbox corporate vice president Fatima Kardar said during the most recent Official Xbox Podcast episode. “It has to be personalized to you the way that you like to play. And it should be able to help you kind of get further in gaming be your companion and help connect you with families and communities. AI is going to be there and you can chat with it and it can trash talk you if that’s what you need.”

Copilot for Gaming is a personalized assistant that can provide suggestions, answer questions, and help you overcome challenges while playing a game. The personalization bit looks interesting, as Copilot for Gaming will adapt to your preferences, skill level, or mood, and it can even offer dynamic feedback that is game titles-specific. The goal is for the AI to be useful but not intrusive, and Microsoft says it will show up when needed rather than interrupting you unnecessarily.

Microsoft will test Copilot for Gaming through its Xbox Insider Program, beginning on mobile before expanding it to console and PC. It will use feedback from the preview to make sure the AI is useful and meets players’ needs.

Microsoft also revealed that there are now over 1,000 Xbox Play Anywhere titles, games that you can play across Xbox consoles and Windows PCs at no additional cost and with cross-device saves, progress, achievements, and the like. The firm also noted that Xbox Clouding Gaming, a perk of Xbox Game Pass Ultimate, is now available across over 200 million devices, thanks to partnerships with smart TV/device makers like Amazon and Samsung.
