Instagram is Reportedly Working on an iPad App

Instagram may finally release an iPad app, according to a new report from The Information. This has been a popular request for many years, and the report says that the Instagram team may want to capitalize on the uncertainty regarding the future of TikTok in the US.

As of today, iPad users can access Instagram via the web or the iPhone app, and neither solution is great. In comparison, TikTok is already available on iPad with landscape mode support, and Snapchat also launched a native iPad app last year.

Instagram isn’t the only app from Meta to not be available on iPads: There’s still no WhatsApp for iPad, even though a beta version was released back in September 2023. WhatsApp apps for Mac and Windows do exist, however, and they make the absence of an iPad app even more strange.

Apple’s iPad Air and Pro models come with excellent displays and capable cameras, and Instagram would benefit from offering a native iPad experience. It’s been nearly 15 years since Apple launched the original iPad, and it’s probably time for Meta to take the iPad audience more seriously.

To better compete with TikTok and its popular CapCut video editing app, the Instagram team is also planning to launch a new Edits app on iOS and Android on April 30. The team also continues to develop Threads, Meta’s alternative to Twitter/X that recently crossed 300 million monthly active users.
