ChatGPT Can Now Remember All Your Previous Conversations

ChatGPT Memory

ChatGPT’s memory feature is getting a big upgrade for Plus and Pro users: The chatbot can now remember all past conversations in addition to the “saved memories” users specifically ask it to remember.

“The more you use ChatGPT, the more useful it becomes,” the company explained. “New conversations build upon what it already knows about you to make smoother, more tailored interactions over time.”

Users are still in control and can opt out of memory in ChatGPT’s settings. When the memory feature is enabled, users can also ask the chatbot to change what it knows about them or use the Temporary Chat feature to have a conversation that won’t use or update memory.

“This is a surprisingly great feature imo, and it points at something we are excited about: AI systems that get to know you over your life, and become extremely useful and personalized,” said OpenAI CEO Sam Altman today. Overall, it’s hard not to draw parallels with Microsoft’s more personalized Copilot assistant with memory that the company introduced at its 50th anniversary event last week.

ChatGPT’s new memory capabilities are rolling out today for Pro users and soon for Plus users, but users in the EEA, UK, Norway, Switzerland, Iceland, and Liechtenstein will have to wait. ChatGPT Team, Enterprise, and Edu users should also get access to these memory improvements in a few weeks.
