Sea of Thieves is Coming to Battle.net on May 22

Sea of Thieves Battle.net

Rare’s pirate game Sea of Thieves is the latest Xbox Games Studios title to be announced as coming to Blizzard’s Battle.net store. The game will come to Battle.net on May 22 when its Season 16 launches, and it will support crossplay, cross-progression, and Xbox Play Anywhere.

Xbox Play Anywhere is a cross-buy feature that used to be exclusive to the Microsoft Store on PC and Xbox, and Microsoft is now starting to expand it to some of its games on Battle.net, including the freshly-released Avowed. Players who purchase that game on either Battle.net or the Microsoft Store can play it on both platforms by linking their Xbox and Battle.net accounts.

Cross-buy support isn’t available on other big Battle.net games such as Diablo IV or Call of Duty: Black Ops 6, but maybe that will change in the future. Battle.net has been around for over two decades, and some PC players may prefer it over the Microsoft Store and the Xbox app for PC. Battle.net has also started showing games that are available on PC Game Pass, which is nice.

Sea of Thieves starts at $39.99/€39.99 on Battle.net, just like on other stores, and the Battle.net version of the Premium Edition comes with five special sails evoking Battle.net favourites. Players who pre-order the game on Battle.net can get the Cobalt Kestrel weapon skins for free, and there will be a Closed Beta on May 2-5 for players who purchase the Deluxe Edition. Lastly, there will be an early-access period on May 16-22 for those who get the game’s Premium Edition.
