The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered Launches on Xbox, PS5, PC, and Game Pass

The Elder Scrolls IV Oblivion Remastered

As expected, Bethesda officially revealed The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered during a livestream today, and the game is now available on Xbox Series X|S, PlayStation 5, PC, and Game Pass. The game’s Standard Edition is priced at $49.99, and a $59.99 Deluxe Edition is also available with bonus quests, weapons, armor, horse armor, and more.

The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered was originally released back in 2006 on Xbox 360 and PC, with the PS3 version released a year later. The game was originally developed with the Gamebryo engine, which later served as a basis for Bethesda’s Creation Engine.

This remaster uses Epic Games’ Unreal Engine 5, which is a first for a Bethesda game. However, The Elder Scrolls IV: Oblivion Remastered was actually co-developed with Singapore-based Virtuos Ltd, which often works as a support studio for other companies.

“Designed in co-operation with the remaster specialists at Virtuos, Oblivion Remastered keeps the core of the original game intact (and includes the Knights of the Nine and Shivering Isles expansions), but drapes it in an incredible new visual style, powered by Unreal Engine 5. Alongside 4K resolution, 60 frames per second performance, all-new textures, lighting effects, and landscape improvements, the game also updates everything from character, spell, and weapon animations, to dynamic time of day and weather effects,” Microsoft explained on Xbox Wire.

This Unreal Engine 5 remaster of Oblivion also introduces various quality of life improvements to the 19-year-old game, including a revised first-person and third-person camera, the ability to run, and a redesigned HUD, menu, and map. The game’s enemy level scaling system has also been improved, with other modifications affecting levelling, encumbrance, non-combat perks, and more.

For PC players, Oblivion Remastered supports Xbox Play Anywhere if you purchase it from the Microsoft Store or the Xbox app for PC. While the game isn’t joining Avowed and Sea of Thieves on Battle.net, it is also available on Steam.
