Meta has just released Edits, its answer to TikTok’s popular CapCut video editing app on iOS and Android. The app was designed in collaboration with video creators, and Meta believes it has versatile editing tools that should appeal to all video creators beyond the Instagram and Facebook user base.
“If you’re passionate about making videos, Edits has the tools you need to support your creation process, all in one place,” the company said today. “Our goal is to build the most compelling creative tools to help creators express themselves freely in all the ways they can imagine, not just on Instagram and Facebook, but on any platform out there.”
Meta’s Edits app lets users keep track of ideas and find inspiration in Instagram Reels videos with trending audio. It’s possible to capture videos up to 10 minutes long right from the app, and Edits also offers various editing features including a green screen, transitions, voice effects, and an AI-powered Animate feature that can turn static images into videos.
Just like TikTok’s CapCut, Edits also supports automatic captioning in multiple languages, and users can also access a vast music library to add background audio to their videos. Videos edited in Edits can be directly shared to Instagram and Facebook with detailed insights about their performance. However, it’s also possible to export these videos and publish them elsewhere with no watermarks.
Edits is free to use and currently has no paid features, unlike TikTok’s CapCut. While that may change eventually, Meta has already detailed upcoming features coming to Edits including AI effects, collaboration support, and more. “This is just the first step in making an app that helps you create your best videos, and we plan to keep evolving and improving Edits based on your feedback,” the company said today.
