Google Photos is celebrating its 10th anniversary today, and it’s doing so by adding two new features. The first one is a redesigned photo editor that makes the app’s powerful editing tools more accessible, and the second one is a new way to share pictures on mobile.
The redesigned editor now puts all editing tools, including the AI Enhance feature in one place. “You can use AI-powered suggestions that combine multiple effects for quick edits in a variety of tailored options, or you can tap specific parts of an image to get suggested tools for editing that area,” Google explained today.
The AI-powered Reimagine and Auto frame features, which first became available on the Google Pixel 9, will also roll out to all devices running Android 8 and newer starting next month. These features are also coming to the iOS version of Google Photos later this year.
Google is also rolling out today a new way to share photo albums using QR codes. Users can generate these codes from the app and scanning them will provide access to the album. Google noted that printing these codes may come in handy when organizing public events.
Lastly, Google shared some new hard data about Google Photos today: The app now has over 1.5 billion monthly active users, with over 9 trillion total photos and videos stored on Google’s servers. “Every month, you perform more than 370 million searches, share 440 million memories and edit 210 million photos,” the company also emphasized today.
