Samsung May Soon Integrate Perplexity AI Into Galaxy Devices

Samsung is reportedly in discussions with Perplexity AI to invest in the startup and integrate its technology into its Galaxy devices. Bloomberg’s Mark Gurman is reporting that a deal between the two companies could be announced as early as this year, with the first Perplexity AI integrations on Samsung’s devices possibly happening early next year with the launch of the Galaxy S26.

“The two companies are in talks to preload Perplexity’s app and assistant on upcoming Samsung devices and integrate the startup’s search features into the Samsung web browser,” Gurman wrote, citing people with knowledge of the matter. “The firms have also discussed weaving Perplexity’s technology into Samsung’s Bixby virtual assistant”, the reporter added.

Perplexity AI was founded back in 2022 and its co-founder and CEO, Aravind Srinivas, previously worked as a research scientist at competitor OpenAI. Bloomberg previously reported that the startup was in early talks for a new funding round that could nearly double its valuation to $14 billion, with Samsung potentially becoming one of its largest investors.

Rumors about Samsung preparing to preload Perplexity AI on its phones started in April. That same month, Motorola became the first phone maker to offer Perplexity’s AI-enhanced search and assistant on its 2025 phone lineup.

Samsung’s interest in Perplexity may be justified by the company’s desire to lessen its reliance on Google’s Gemini AI, which is deeply integrated into its latest Galaxy S25 series. However, the partnership between the two companies may well go further than that. “Samsung and Perplexity have also discussed building an AI-infused operating system and an AI agents app that can tap into functionality from Perplexity and a range of other AI assistants,” Gurman reported.
