YouTube Premium Lite Subscribers Will Soon See More Ads

The cheaper YouTube Premium Lite plan that Google recently launched in the US, Germany, Australia, and Thailand will soon start showing more ads to subscribers. While ads on this plan are currently restricted to music videos, Premium Lite subscribers will soon see them when watching YouTube’s TikTok-like Shorts videos and when they browse the platform.

German blog Deskmodder.de recently reported (via 9toGoogle) that Google had started notifying YouTube Premium Lite subscribers in the country about the change by email. The message says that ads will start to appear in more places starting June 30. Google also updated a YouTube Premium support page to detail where subscribers to the cheaper plan can expect to see ads.

“With Premium Lite, you won’t get ads on videos like gaming, fashion, beauty, news, and more. Ads however may appear on music content, Shorts, and when you search or browse,” the company explained.

YouTube Premium Lite is priced at $7.99/ month in the US, and the subscription doesn’t include other Premium features such as video downloads, background play on mobile, and YouTube Music Premium. At $13.99/month, the regular YouTube Music Premium subscription remains a good value if you care about these additional perks and a completely ad-free experience across YouTube.
