Seagate Launches $499 4TB Xbox Series X|S Expansion Card

Seagate 4TB Xbox Series X_S Expansion Card

Seagate is launching today a 4TB version of its Xbox Series X|S storage expansion card, which doubles the storage of the previous best model. However, it’s launching at $429.99 thanks to a $70 temporary discount, making it more expensive than the $379.99 base Xbox Series S with 512GB of storage.

Just like the existing 512GB, 1TB, and 2TB versions, this new expansion card from Seagate provides the same speed and performance as the internal SSD on Xbox Series X|S consoles. This is the only type of external storage (alongside officially licensed expansion cards from Western Digital) that can play current-gen Xbox games directly from the drive.

While it’s still possible to store Xbox Series X|S games on external USB-based SSDs or HDDs, these games won’t launch unless they’re transferred to the console’s internal storage or external cards from Seagate and Western Digital. Seagate’s 2TB expansion card was already quite expensive at $249.99, but the company believes that there’s a growing demand for more storage.

“With AAA titles frequently exceeding 100GB, higher capacity storage is essential for uninterrupted gameplay. Seagate’s new 4TB Storage Expansion Card gives Xbox players the freedom to download and play their favorite blockbuster games, indie favorites, and media without worrying about running out of space,” the company said today.

If you’re in the US, you can purchase Seagate’s new 4TB storage expansion card for Xbox Series X|S consoles from the company’s website and Best Buy. Let’s hope these proprietary expansion cards won’t become useless once the next generation of Xbox consoles launches in two or three years.
