HP has lost it’s mind

Sometime within the next year or so I’m going to need a new laptop. I like the look of HDR video and photos. Since most people use their phones to look at videos and photos I’m not worried about people being able to see it since most phones have HDR screens. I want a laptop with a pen (for Photoshop) and a screen with 1000 nits of brightness.

I went to the HP site and looked around and didn’t find what I was looking for. So I used the chat to ask someone. They eventually sent me to the small business people. They said this one would be closest to what I want. https://www.hp.com/us-en/shop/pdp/hp-elitebook-x-flip-g1i-14-inch-next-gen-ai-pc-b5qw5av-mb?utm_source=insidechat

The base model is $3756 for a machine with 16GB of RAM and a 256GB of storage and a 400 nit screen. There is an 800 nit screen available as an upgrade. So when I upgrade that and upgrade to 32GB of RAM and 2TB of storage it puts the price at $5505. $1365 for the storage upgrade alone. When I asked if that was correct the guy on the chat said yeah that unit isn’t on sale and most everything else is. Why would anyone pay $3756 for a machine with 256GB of storage and 16GB of RAM in 2025? I speced out a MacBook Pro with similar specs for $3200. That’s just crazy that HP thinks someone is going to pay those prices.

I then went to Dell and looked and in their little AI chatbot they only had screens above 500 nits with 11th and 12th gen Intel processors. So no thanks there.

I’ll probably end up getting two laptops. A PC and a Mac.
