Netflix is planning to remove 21 games from its mobile games library in July. The list includes the critically-acclaimed indie game Hades, the Monument Valley Trilogy, Braid: Anniversary Edition, Death’s Door, and more (via Engadget).
Hades was only available on iOS devices, and it will be going away on July 1. Other games in the list below will leave the Netflix library on July 14:
Netflix still offers high-profile mobile games such as GTA: San Andreas – The Definitive Edition, Street Fighter IV, TMNT: Shredder’s Revenge, Sonic Mania Plus, and Oxenfree. The latter is also available on TV and the web as part of the beta test of Netflix’s cloud gaming technology.
In recent months, Netflix has been streamlining its game division with the closure of its AAA game studio and the cancellation of six mobile games. The streaming platform also went through management changes with the departure of Mike Verdu, the creator of Netflix’s game division, who had transitioned to a new VP of Generative AI for Games role before leaving the company.
In the future, Netflix will likely take fewer risks and focus on games based on its most popular TV shows, such as Emily in Paris, Too Hot to Handle, and Virgin River. Back in December, the company also made Squid Game: Unleashed, one of its most ambitious games, completely free to play on mobile.
