Over use of the word enshittification

Maybe it’s just me, being grouchy old man geek that I am. But I think the word enshittification has just been way over used. It’s used when a browser has features or UI someone doesn’t like. When an OS (typically Windows) has features or UI someone doesn’t like. I’ve seen enshittification being used to describe the new liquid theme for iOS 26. Or when a company or dev wants to use a paid subscription model for their software.

Definition: “Enshittification” refers to the process where online platforms, initially designed to benefit users, gradually degrade in quality and user experience as the platform prioritizes profit-driven actions, such as increased advertising, fees, or manipulation of algorithms. It’s a neologism coined by Cory Doctorow to describe this decline, particularly in the context of the internet. 

It’s lost it’s meaning now. When it was succinct when Doctorow coined it.
