DuckDuckGo Lets You Hide AI Images, More in Search Results

DuckDuckGo Search now gives users the option to hide AI-generated images in its search results. But there’s more going on: The search engine also has other ways to remove AI content from results.

“Our philosophy about AI features is ‘private, useful, and optional’,” DuckDuckGo writes on Twitter/X. “Our goal is to help you find what you’re looking for. You should decide for yourself how much AI you want in your life, or if you want any at all.”

According to DuckDuckGo, this AI image filter uses manually curated open-source blocklists, including the “nuclear” list that’s provided by uBlockOrigin and uBlacklist Huge AI Blocklist. It can’t catch 100 percent of AI-generated results, but it will “greatly reduce the number of AI-generated images you see,” the company says.

There are two ways to hide AI images in search results on DuckDuckGo:

  • In Settings: Switch the “Hide AI-Generated Images” option to “Off.”
  • While viewing image search results: Select “AI images” and then “Hide.”

DuckDuckGo also offers a more comprehensive way to remove AI content from its search service: Navigate to noai.duckduckgo.com, where the image filter is auto-enabled, AI-assisted summaries are disabled, and the Duck.ai chat icons are hidden.
