MWC 2025: Qualcomm X85 5G Modem Hits 12.5 Gbps

Qualcomm reported that it earned a net income of $2.7 billion on revenues of $10.4 billion in the quarter ending June 29, 2025. Those figures represent gains of 29 percent and 10 percent, respectively, year-over-year (YOY).

“Another quarter of strong growth in Automotive and IoT revenues further validates our diversification strategy and confidence in achieving our long-term revenue targets,” Qualcomm president and CEO Cristiano Amon said. “Our leadership in AI processing, high-performance and low-power computing and advanced connectivity positions us to become the industry platform of choice as AI gains scale at the edge.”

Handsets is Qualcomm’s biggest business by far, and it reported revenues of $6.23 billion, a gain of 7 percent YOY but a bit shy of expectations. Outside of Apple, this business saw a revenue gain of 15 percent, Qualcomm said, in the first time it’s split out that figure.

Automotive delivered another $984 million in revenues for a gain of 21 percent. IoT added $1.68 billion, with a gain of $24 percent YOY, thanks in part to Meta smart glasses sales. And Qualcomm’s licensing business, QTL, had revenues of $1.3 billion, up 4 percent YOY.

Qualcomm also revealed that it will begin making AI chips for datacenters. It expects to see meaningful revenues from this new business by 2028.
