Microsoft announced yesterday that it was offering one free year of Microsoft 365 Personal ($99 value) to all US college students for a limited time (via The Verge). This new initiative aims to empower teachers and students with the latest AI tools, and it’s part of the company’s support for the Presidential AI Challenge and the AI Education executive order.
“We believe delivering on the real promise of AI depends on how broadly it’s diffused. This requires investment and innovation in AI education, training, and job certification,” the company said yesterday in a blog post penned by Microsoft President Brad Smith and LinkedIn CEO Ryan Roslansky.
The 12-month free Microsoft 365 Personal subscription can be claimed by US college students who are not currently Microsoft 365 Personal student offer subscribers. A valid college email address is required to sign up on this page, and the limited-time offer will be available until October 31.
In addition to this free Microsoft 365 Personal subscription for college students, Microsoft is also offering free LinkedIn Learning AI courses for students, teachers, and job seekers. Through its new Microsoft Elevate initiative, the company will also provide free AI training and certifications for faculty and staff, and it will expand access to its Copilot AI assistant to students and teachers in schools.
