Notion 3.0 Arrives With AI Agents

Notion has released Notion 3.0, which it describes as the biggest-ever update to its modular productivity app. The hook this time is a customizable AI agent that performs tasks on your behalf.

“This isn’t an AI chatbot that makes generic suggestions,” Notion co-founder Akshay Kothari writes. “Your Notion Agent tackles real work because it understands your work and can take action. It can complete multiple actions at a time, creating finished pages, databases, and reports directly in your workspace. Just assign the tasks, and your Agent does the work.”

According to the Notion 3.0 release notes, the Notion Agent is essentially the new version of Notion AI.

“With Notion 1.0 and 2.0, we gave you the tools to do your work in one place,” it explains. “With 3.0, you get Agents that do the work for you, so you can reclaim time and focus on building your life’s work.”

Put another way, the original version of Notion delivered a modular and collaborative canvas for note-taking and documents, Notion 2.0 added databases and third-party integration, and Notion 3.0 builds on Notion AI to deliver agents that can “finish real work.”

Previously, Notion AI could answer questions and help edit a single page. Now, the Notion Agent can perform up to 20 minutes of automated work across hundreds of page simultaneously. Since this is difficult to describe, Notion supplies a few examples of what you might tell Notion Agent to do:

  • “Compile customer feedback from Slack, Notion, and email into actionable insights”
  • Convert a meeting note into a polished proposal, updated task trackers, and follow‑up messages
  • Keep your knowledge base up-to-date—when important details change, ask your Agent to spot gaps and update everything for you
  • Create a personalized new hire onboarding plan (with an example found here)
  • Keep track of movies to watch
  • Keep track of coffee shops to visit (example here)

Notion also maintains a library of community-created examples.

A lot of the language here is getting awfully familiar. The Notion Agent will get better and more personalized the more you use it. You can give it a name, customize it with templates to give it specific skills, and this will be expanded to a team of multiple custom agents in the near future.

“Custom agents are coming soon,” Kothari says. Of course they are.
