Microsoft is launching an experimental Copilot Portraits feature that brings real-time animated faces to voice conversations with the assistant. The feature, which is currently available via the Copilot Labs portal, offers 40 stylized portaits to choose from.
These new human-like portraits are Microsoft’s response to community feedback about wanting visual feedback in Copilot Voice chats. The company previously introduced an animated blob with different cues and expressions to make Copilot look more “alive” during voice conversations, but these new animated portraits will give the assistant a human-like appearance.
Still rolling out, so some users may not see it right away. This is very much a prototype to help us learn more about how people feel talking to an AI – if you try it out, please send us your feedback! https://t.co/60LguJuq9w

These new animated portraits are only available to a subset of users in the US, UK, and Canada, just like the previous blob-like faces. “This is very much a prototype to help us learn more about how people feel talking to an AI,” said Mustafa Suleyman, the CEO of Microsoft AI on X.
Microsoft’s Copilot Labs portal currently provides access to various experimental features, including a new Copilot 3D tool that turns images into 3D models. Copilot Pro users can also try new Copilot Actions that lets Copilot complete various tasks on the web, such as reservations and travel bookings.
