A Halo Studios veteran recently left the studio after 17 years and posted a strange warning message on his departure. The LinkedIn post, which was published a week ago by former Halo Art Director Glenn Israel (via Insider Gaming), suggests that not everything is well within the studio previously known as 343 Industries.
The tone of the message hints that Israel didn’t leave Halo Studios on good terms, and an NDA may currently prevent him from telling the full story. The former Art Director also encouraged his peers not to forget who they are as they navigate a troubled industry.
“As of today and after seventeen long years, I am officially no longer contributing to the Halo universe. There is little more I can say for the moment, though I intend to share this particular story in its entirety when it is absolutely safe to do so next year. In the meantime, I have a message for anyone and everyone who needs to hear it.
I know that the state of our industry seems dire, but never forget that you are *free to choose*. No illusion of security nor promise of wealth or fame or power is worth trading away your health, your dignity, your ethics or values – and no one can force you to. Stay strong, take evidence when necessary, and find where you belong.”
Over the summer, it was reported that Halo Studios had been affected by Microsoft’s latest round of layoffs. At the time, a developer working at the studio told Engadget that the mood at the studio was tense. “I don’t think anybody is really happy about the quality of the product right now,” the developer said. “There’s been a lot of tension and pep talks trying to rally folks to ship.”
While Halo Infinite, the latest game in the series is still being supported, Halo Studios is reportedly working on a remake of Halo: Combat Evolved, which may not be an Xbox console exclusive. The company plans to share more about what it’s been working on during the Halo World Championship 2025 event in Seattle on October 24.
