Spotify is expanding access to the managed accounts feature that lets parents with a Premium Family subscription give their kids an experience tailored for younger listeners. This includes the ability to block explicit content, specific artists and songs, and videos.
Managed Accounts first launched in New Zealand, Sweden, Denmark, Spain, Italy, Portugal, Brazil, Mexico, Argentina, and Colombia. Starting today, they’re now available in the US, UK, Canada, Australia, Germany, France, and the Netherlands.
While managed accounts let parents choose what music their kids can discover using parental controls, some interactive features are also limited. Listeners aged under 13 (or local market equivalent) won’t have access to Spotify’s new Direct Message feature. By default, managed accounts also can’t search for playlists created by other users, and they can’t access other social features like Jam, Blend, and collaborative playlists.
Young listeners with managed accounts still get access to Spotify’s personalized recommendations and playlists like daylist and Discover Weekly. However, when switching a plan member’s account to a managed account, the plan member’s listening history and some of their personal information will be deleted.
Managed accounts can only be created by Premium Family plan managers, and that can be done from Spotify’s account page. You can get more details on how to set up managed accounts on this support page.
