YouTube is starting to roll out a new video player across all platforms. The company promises a “cleaner, more immersive viewing experience” with updated controls designed to make more of the content shine through.
On mobile, the double-tap to skip feature has also been improved to be “more modern and less intrusive.” Moving between tabs should also be more fluid with seamless transitions with improved motion design.
The comment section on YouTube videos is also getting a new threading system that provides a “more focused reading experience.” There are now three buttons at the top of the comment section: “Top,” “Timed,” and “Newest.“
Lastly, YouTube is making the process of saving videos to “Watch Later” or another playlist “smoother and more visual.” Users will also notice custom animations when liking select content. “For instance, liking a music video will trigger an animated musical note and sports videos include a visual cue from the game,” the YouTube team said. These new visual updates are now rolling out globally across mobile, web, and TV devices.
