Streaming giant Netflix reported that it earned a net income of $2.4 billion on revenues of $9.8 billion in the quarter ending September 30, 2025. Those figures represent gains of 26.5 percent and 17 percent, respectively, year-over-year (YOY). But Netflix barely missed some of its earnings projections because of “an ongoing dispute with Brazilian tax authorities.”
“In the third quarter, we delivered a great slate including Wednesday season 2, Bon Appétit, Your Majesty from South Korea, and Happy Gilmore 2, while KPop Demon Hunters became our most popular film ever,” a Netflix letter to shareholders explains. “We recorded our best ad sales quarter ever and doubled our commitments in the US upfront. And the Canelo vs. Crawford boxing match became the most-viewed men’s championship fight this century.”
Netflix pointed out that it is now in its “second decade of original programming,” if you weren’t feeling old enough already. It has hit shows like Stranger Things, The Witcher, Emily in Paris, and others returning with new seasons in the current quarter, along with several new series, many of which are international. There are also many movies on the way, including Guillermo del Toro’s Frankenstein and Rian Johnson’s Wake Up Dead Man: A Knives Out Mystery.
Netflix also rolled out a new user interface for its TV-based apps, which you absolutely would have noticed. This UI moves to a more traditional navigation scheme with top-level menu items on the top of the screen instead of the left. And Netflix says that while it has been using machine language (ML) and AI for viewing recommendations for years, it now plans to use generative AI (somehow) to “enhance the member experience by improving the quality of our recommendations and content discovery features.”
