I enjoy Spawn Wave’s YouTube channel for the gaming news. There isn’t any of that yelling at the screen and antics, he gives his personal view but dude is pretty even keel and has a love for the gaming industry. But anyways, this was a very interesting interview.
Mat Piscatella talks about the trends in the industry. How consoles are primarily purchased by older games, 46+. Console prices have gotten more expensive. How younger kids don’t talk like older gamer do. Older gamers: I play Xbox, PlayStation, etc. Younger gamers (the long term future) say I play Fortnite, Minecraft, etc. which are cross platform games.
The game companies are expanding to other markets because consoles have matured, they’ve plateaued. Microsoft is moving away from console exclusivity, expanding on PC, cloud gaming, mobile, and releasing on other platforms like PlayStation. Sony is going after PC gaming, mobile gaming, looking at turning their IPs to theme parks. Nintendo has gone all in with their theme parks and their movies. The gaming market is just very fragmented right now. They talk about all kinds of stuff including AI and free to play. It’s worth a listen if you’re interested in the gaming market.
