Fallout 4 Adds Xbox Play Anywhere and Creations Support

Fallout 4 Xbox Play Anywhere Support

Fallout 4 is adding support for Xbox Play Anywhere today alongside the release of the game’s Anniversary Edition on Xbox, PlayStation, and PC. This means that Xbox players who already own the game can now play it for free on PC and enjoy cross-saves support.

After being acquired by Microsoft, Bethesda brought Fallout 4 and most of its games to the Microsoft Store, the Xbox app, and PC Game Pass, but without Xbox Play Anywhere support. The existing PC version of Fallout 4 on the Microsoft Store remains available to download with PC Game Pass (it looks like you can no longer purchase it, however), but it won’t be updated anymore, and it also doesn’t support cross-saves with the new Xbox Play Anywhere version.

Xbox Play Anywhere is key to making devices like the ROG Xbox Ally truly feel like an “Xbox.” The feature lets gamers purchase a game once and play it on both Xbox and PC, but it’s up to developers to opt in, and most of them don’t. And as of today, there are still way too many Microsoft-owned games that don’t support the feature, including Minecraft, Diablo IV, and Halo: The Master Chief Collection.

It’s good to see such an “old” game like Fallout 4 add Xbox Play Anywhere support 10 years after its release. The just-released $59.99 Anniversary Edition includes the game’s six official add-ons and over 150 pieces of Creation Club content. If you already own all existing Fallout 4 DLCs, however, you can get the new Creation Club items by just purchasing the $19.99 Creations bundle.

All Fallout 4 players can find previously released Creations (including Fallout 4 mods) plus new Creation Club items from the community via the new in-game Creations Menu. This makes Fallout 4 the latest Bethesda game to add support for fan-made content after Skyrim and Starfield.

It will be interesting to see if Fallout 76, which is set to receive a proper next-gen update in early 2026, will also add Xbox Play Anywhere support on this occasion. The same could be said about Skyrim, which remains one of the most popular Bethesda games of all time.
