Fortnite is Back in the Google Play Store in the U.S.

Thanks to a settlement agreement in Epic v. Google, Fortnite is back in the Google Play Store in the United States after a multi-year absence.

“Fortnite is back on Android through Google Play in the USA, and will continue to be available through Epic Games Store on Android worldwide,” Epic Games CEO Tim Sweeney tweeted. “Thanks to Google for all of their awesome support; this is the beginning of a new, open world of mobile gaming!”

Epic Games defeated Google handily at every stage in Epic v. Google, with the online giant losing every appeal and being snubbed by the U.S. Supreme Court. But the two companies surprised us all by announcing a settlement in early November that expanded the Epic Games win worldwide and for a longer period of time.

The only missing piece of the puzzle was getting Fortnite back into the Google Play Store in the U.S. But today, that finally happened: Google has complied with the injunction brought down by U.S. District Court Judge James Donato and is now partnering with Epic Games to publicize Fortnite.

In other words, Fortnite is now available in the Google Play Store, the Apple App Store, and the Epic Games Store for PC. This is a near total victory for Epic Games following several years of expensive and bruising court cases that it undertook to combat Apple’s and Google’s abusive, anti-competitive behaviors in their respective mobile app stores.
