Half-Life 3 Rumored as Steam Machine Launch Title

We’ve suffered through two decades of Half-Life 3 rumors, but it appears that we may finally get the game in 2026. The latest rumor claims it will be a Steam Machine launch title.

Count me among those who would drop everything to play through Half-Life 3 immediately. The original Half-Life and Half-Life 2 are among the greatest video games ever created, titles I’ve replayed multiple times along with most of their content add-ons. But aside from one limited exception—the VR spinoff Half-Life: Alyx—and some remasters, Valve has been largely silent on this topic over the years. And it’s still possible we’ll never get the Half-Life 3 game that fans have been waiting for impatiently.

But you never know. Half-Life 3 rumors were plentiful this past year, and now a gaming journalist claims that a source told them that the game is on the way.

“The window I was specifically told was spring 2026 for the Steam Machine, for the Frame, for the Controller, for Half-Life 3,” Mike Straw, the senior editor of Insider Gaming said on a recent podcast. “At the end of the day, the game is real.”

Aside from the obvious, the issue now is apparently the rising cost of RAM, which could delay the release of the Steam Machine and, thus, that of Half-Like 3 too. But Straw said that his sources were “adamant” that the game with be a Steam Machine launch title. Which leads to the next obvious question: Will Half-Life 3 only be available on the Steam Machine or will it also come to Windows and modern consoles?

On that, we have not heard. But I have to assume that if Half-Life 3 does exist, it will be released broadly, even if it debuts alongside the Steam Machine. Fingers crossed.
