Valve Discontinues Steam Deck LCD Model

Valve quietly discontinued the LCD model of the Steam Deck gaming handheld, which was the least expensive version of the product. With this change, all Steam Decks feature larger OLED displays and the entry-level price is now $550, about $150 more than before.

“We are no longer producing the Steam Deck LCD 256 GB model,” the Steam Deck website explains. “Once sold out, it will no longer be available.”

Well, it’s sold out. So there you go. And while Valve does offer refurbished Steam Decks in various configurations, those, too, are all sold out.

The first Steam Deck arrived in 2021 and it’s been updated on a glacial schedule, making it unclear when or if we’ll ever see a new version of the product. The previous release, the Steam Deck OLED, debuted just over two years ago. These models offer a slightly bigger display (7.4 inches vs. 7) with a faster 90 Hz refresh rate (and the same 1280 x 720 resolution), Wi-Fi 6E (vs. Wi-Fi 5), and a larger battery (50 Whr vs. 40 Whr).

The price hasn’t changed since 2023, at least: The 512 GB OLED Steam Deck costs $549, while the 1 TB version, which also includes a premium anti-glare etched glass display, costs $649.
