Google TV is Getting New Gemini-Powered AI Features

Google detailed today how it’s planning to improve the new Gemini on Google TV experience that made its debut on select devices last year. Google’s AI chatbot was first made available on TCL’s QM9K smart TV series, and new Gemini for TV features will continue to roll out first to select TCL smart TVs.

The first new Gemini feature coming to Google TV will let the chatbot display imagery, videos, and real-time sports updates with its responses. This new “visually rich framework” will be completed with “Deep dives,” which will offer interactive and narrated overviews for responses to more complex questions.

Gemini on Google TV will also soon be able to change TV settings by listening to natural language prompts. Google mentioned the ability to adjust screen brightness or dialogue volume by just asking Gemini to tweak these settings without interrupting media playback.

Lastly, Gemini on Google TV is getting the ability to browse Google Photos libraries, create slideshows, and edit photos and videos using Google’s Nano Banana and Veo AI models. Google said that its latest generative AI models will let you “create original media directly on your TV.”

These new Google TV features will be coming to other Google TV devices, including the Google TV streamer, over the coming months. Today, Samsung also announced that it’s planning to bring Google Photos to its AI TV lineup running its own Tizen OS. It will be interesting to see if LG and other companies developing their own smart TV platform will follow.
