Spotify Now Shows Listening Activity on Mobile

Spotify Listening Activity mobile

After introducing Direct Messages on mobile last year, Spotify appears to be doubling down on social features in 2026. Today, the company announced that mobile users can now share their listening activity with their followers, a feature that was only available on the desktop app until now.

Sharing your listening activity on Spotify is entirely opt-in, and the information will only show up within the Messages section of the mobile app. On desktop, it appears on the Friends activity panel that can be pinned to the right side of the app. Clicking or tapping on a track being played by a Spotify contact lets users start playback or add it to their library.

“If you’re not actively listening, your most recently played song will be displayed instead. It’s visible only to friends and family you have already connected with on Messages, and you can see others’ activity even if you haven’t turned your own activity on, as long as they’ve opted in,” the company explained.

The second new feature that Spotify is adding to its mobile app is “Request to Jam,” which lets Premium users invite friends on Spotify to a live listening session. This Jam feature first launched on the desktop app more than two years ago, and Spotify said in August that it crossed 100 million monthly listening hours.

Both Listening activity and Request to Jam are rolling out to Spotify users in markets where Direct Messages on mobile are available. The two features should become generally available by early February.
