WhatsApp announced today some upgrades for its Groups feature, with new member tags, event reminders, and more. The new member tags will enable group members to select a custom tag that provides other members with more information about them.
“Now you can give yourself a tag that tells the group what your role is, and can be customized for each group you’re in. So you can be “Anna’s Dad” in one group, and “Goalkeeper” in another,” the WhatsApp team explained.
WhatsApp groups already let users create polls and events, including for group calls. With event reminders, it’s now possible to add a custom alert for other attendees when creating an event in a group.
Lastly, new text stickers allow group users to turn any word into a sticker that stands out in the conversation. This can be done by simply typing text into the app’s Sticker Search feature.
WhatsApp is one of the most popular messaging apps on the market, with more than 3 billion monthly active users. The team announced today that it’s committed to making the group chat experience “even better.” Last year, WhatsApp also introduced online indicators in group chats, as well as a new way to prioritize group chat notifications.
