OpenAI Launches ChatGPT Translate

OpenAI ChatGPT Translate

OpenAI has discreetly launched a new translation tool in ChatGPT (via Android Authority), which seems to replicate the UI from Google Translate and other competitors, with an AI twist: ChatGPT Translate offers prompt suggestions for refining translations.

As you probably know, it’s already possible to ask ChatGPT to translate text in another language, but the ChatGPT Translate UI replicates the familiar Google Translate experience: You type or paste text to translate in a box, ChatGPT can automatically detect the language for you, and you choose which language you want the text to be translated into on the right.

At the bottom, ChatGPT Translate suggests different options, such as “translate this as if you’re explaining it to a child”. Picking up one of these options will open a regular chat conversation, where users can ask for even more refinements.

ChatGPT Translate can translate text, voice, or images across 50+ languages, and it can also help language learners by providing grammar help. As of today, Google Translate supports over 200 languages, and it also lets users upload documents and translate websites. However, OpenAI iterates fast, and it shouldn’t be long until ChatGPT becomes much more capable.

OpenAI isn’t really promoting ChatGPT Translate on the main ChatGPT interface yet, but it’s available on chatgpt.com/translate.
