Xbox Insiders Can Test Disabling Quick Resume on a Per-Game Basis

Xbox Quick Resume

Xbox gamers on Xbox Series X|S consoles will soon be able to disable Quick Resume on a per-game basis. The new feature will go live today for select Xbox Insiders, and this has been a long time coming as Quick Resume doesn’t play well with always-online games.

“Quick Resume is one of the most loved features on Xbox, but we’ve heard that for certain games it doesn’t always deliver the experience you expect, especially after long periods of inactivity. With this update, you can disable Quick Resume on a per-game basis to ensure those games always launch fresh,” the Xbox team explained today.

In practice, Quick Resume allows Xbox Series X|S owners to keep a couple of games in a suspended state, so they can be resumed almost instantly, even after a console reboot. Suspended games resume just where gamers left off, but with online service-based games, gamers are often pushed back to the main menu due to lost connectivity.

The option to disable Quick Resume for specific Xbox games will be available from the ‘More options’ menu on a game tile. Xbox Insiders will need to select the Manage Quick Resume option and then toggle on Disable Quick Resume.

Microsoft will also be testing other changes to the Xbox dashboard with Xbox Insiders, including the ability to pin up to 10 groups on the home screen. The Xbox team is also adding the ability to pick up a custom color to personalize the Xbox Guide, and profile badges will also now appear when browsing Xbox profiles on the Xbox Guide.

If you’re an Xbox Insider, these new features will start rolling out later today to select testers, with a broader rollout to follow in the coming weeks.
