Spotify is launching today a redesigned tablet experience for iPads and Android tablets that takes better advantage of the bigger screens. While the core navigation doesn’t change, with a bottom navigation bar providing quick access to search, personal libraries, and creation tools, the app now supports parallel browsing with a new collapsible sidebar.
“From TV to desktop to the car, we’ve been designing Spotify to feel native to each screen—and now we’re bringing that same experience to tablets,” said Nicole Burrow, Head of Design, Consumer Experience, Spotify. “Tablets give you more room to explore, so we designed it to let you browse and discover new favorites alongside what’s already playing.
With the new collapsible sidebar, Spotify users can now explore the platform’s content on one side and control music playback on the other side. The “Switch to Video” toggle for music videos and podcasts is now front and center, and the new sidebar also provides quick access to lyrics and other scrollable content.
Lastly, Spotify on tablets is now better optimized for both portrait and landscape modes. “The interface now reconfigures—not just resizes—as you switch between portrait and landscape, so it feels balanced and intentional in both views,” the company explained.
