Opera Will Let Users Integrate Claude and ChatGPT Into Its Browser

Opera today announced a new feature called Browser Connector that lets you connect to AI chatbots directly using Model Context Protocol (MCP). It’s coming soon to Opera One and Opera GX and is available today in an early preview.

“Browser Connector allows you to connect your favorite AI to your Opera browser and let it see what you’re working on,” Opera’s Santiago Benavides García writes. “We’re empowering you to connect your favorite AI tools with your browser, not binding you to any specific ecosystem provided by one company.”

With Browser Control, Opera One and Opera GX users can connect directly with Claude or ChatGPT directly instead of manually giving these AI chatbots web-based context every time you want to accomplish some task. Once you make the connection, the AI can open web pages, read and take screenshots of them, and understand open tabs. This prevents routine copy and pasting and enables the AI to help you understand and commingle content across multiple tabs.

Browser Control is optional, of course, and it’s free. To test it now, you need to enable Early Bird mode in the browser’s settings and relaunch the app. Some features are enabled by default, but others need to be enabled manually, so it’s worth looking through the settings. And you have to connect your Claude or ChatGPT account there as well.

“You can always control what ChatGPT or Claude can do in your browser, taking into account that they won’t be able to interact with webpages themselves – meaning clicking, filling forms, and generally operating autonomously,” Opera notes.

You can download Opera One and Opera GX from the Opera website.
