YouTube is Making Picture-in-Picture Available for All Mobile Users

YouTube Picture in Picture mobile

YouTube is finally making picture-in-picture (PiP) available for all mobile users around the world. The feature was already available globally to all YouTube Premium subscribers, and it was also free for US mobile users, but only for non-music content.

The global rollout of picture-in-picture for free YouTube users outside the US will happen over the coming months, but, again, the feature will be restricted to non-music content. Subscribing to YouTube Premium will remain the only way to enjoy PiP support on all videos, as even the YouTube Premium Lite plan won’t support PiP for music content.

Picture-in-picture support has been available on Android for many years, but it only came to iOS 15 and newer in 2022. The feature allows users to shrink a video into a small player that continues playing after leaving the YouTube mobile app. When using PiP, videos can also be moved anywhere on the screen.

As someone who pays for YouTube Premium and watches a lot of videos on my phone, I’m happy to see YouTube finally making picture-in-picture available globally. For me, it’s one of those features you can’t live without once you’ve tried it. You can learn more about how to turn the feature on and off on this support page.
