iA Writer Now Offers Direct Purchasing on Mac and Windows

iA Writer is a terrific Markdown editor, and you can now purchase the Mac and Windows versions without having to use an App Store. (The iPhone and iPad versions are still available only from the Apple App Store.)

“For over 16 years, customers have asked for a way to buy iA apps outside the App Store,” the iA announcement explains. “Some didn’t like the App Store, some didn’t have access to it due to company policies. With direct sales it’s finally possible to use our apps both at home and at work.”

iA first added iA account support to Presenter, its Markdown-based presentation app, which is currently Mac-only. But its goal is to bring this support to all its apps, and there is no bigger iA app than iA Writer.

With an iA account, customers can now purchase iA Writer from the App Store (Mac), Microsoft Store (Windows), or directly from the iA website. It also adds the ability to access and extend add-on services like web sharing for iA Presenter, and it lets iA extend educational discounts for students and teachers.

If you do buy iA Writer with an iA account, which is just your email address, you don’t get a license key you need to keep track of. Instead, each time you sign-in to a new install of the app, you will get a six-digit code via email.

iA will also add iA account support to the App Store versions of all its apps so customers can consolidate and manage all their purchases from a single place. This will also let the company implement a way to try the iPhone an iPad versions of the app before buying.
