Google is finally ready to announce a release date for its new Gemini-powered Home speaker. The new device was first teased during a previous Made by Google event back in August 2025, and Anish Kattukaran, Chief Product Officer, Google Home & Nest, teased an announcement next week.
In an email sent to all users of Google smart speakers and displays, which he also published on Reddit (via Android Police), the exec announced that over 3.5 million of them had opted in to test the new Gemini for Home experience. “You didn’t just try out features; you opened up a direct line to our engineering team to tell us exactly what was working, where there was friction, and what you needed next,” the exec said.
Kattukaran ended his email with the following tease: “For those of you who have been patiently waiting for a certain speaker… keep a very close eye on your inbox next week :)”
It’s been years since Google released its latest Nest-branded smart speakers and displays. The Nest Audio was released back in September 2020, and it was followed by the 2nd-gen Nest Hub in March 2021. There has been nothing new for five years, and the upcoming Google Home speaker looks like a mix of an Apple HomePod Mini and an Amazon Echo speaker with its glowing LED at the bottom.
At the moment, older Google Home and Nest speakers ( including the Google Nest Wifi router) support “most” Gemini for Home features. To get the full experience with Gemini Live, which supports free-flowing conversations with the assistant, you need a Google 2nd-gen Nest Hub or Nest Hub Max smart display, or a 2nd-gen Nest Mini or Nest Audio speaker. It remains to be seen if the upcoming Google Home speaker will have exclusive new Gemini features, though.
According to a recent leak from Best Buy Canada, Google’s new smart speaker may start shipping on June 25, 2026. We won’t have to wait much longer to find out if this was the correct date.
