Threads, Meta’s microblogging platform that launched three years ago continues to solidify its status as the main Twitter/X alternative. The app has now crossed 500 million monthly active users, and the team announced new product updates to celebrate.
First of all, the new Threads communities that launched last year are dropping their beta tag, and they’re adding top-requested features such as custom icons and native language tags. Threads is also making communities easier to access by making them available right from the app’s main menu.
In February, Threads introduced an AI-powered “Dear Algo” feature that lets users tell the app the most important topics they want to see more or less off. To complement this experience, a new “Your Algo” will give users even more control over their algorithmic recommendations.
“With Your Algo, you can tell Threads you want to see more or less of certain topics and choose how long the request lasts: one, three, or seven days. Only you will be able to see your requests, and you can manage both Dear Algo and Your Algo in one unified hub,” the Threads team explained today.
Your Algo is currently only available for Threads users in the US, the UK, Canada, Australia, and New Zealand. If you use Instagram, a similar “Your Algorithm” feature also lets users control what they want to see across Reels, the Explore tab, and the app’s main feed.
